The South Chilcotins is an incredible place to adventure on two wheels. I have experienced the Chilcotins in many different ways over the years from float plane drops, multi day bike packing trips and basing myself out of the Tyax lodge or one of chalets on Tyaughton lake for out and back multi day adventures. For this trip we headed out for just the day from Squamish. With an early start we tackled the burly Hurley road and made our way to Tyax and headed out on one of my favourite alpine single track loops. The tail is Ridge-O-Rama and it has some of the most spectacular views and technical riding. The final descent is one of the best in the area as the single track dramatically drops off the end of the ridge and back into the valley below.
About to hit the Hurley crusing out of the dark and foggy Pemberton Meadows After an hour climb into the mountains the alpine views begin to open up. Frist stop the old Taylor Cabin. My bike of choice for this trip is the Santa Cruz Blur. Matt inside the Taylor Cabin There is no right on wrong bike out here. From the short travel Blur to the burly Megatower they will all have there advantages at some point out here on this loop. One of the best things is riding through all the wild flowers. Demi climbing that perfect alpine single track Ross on the last punchy uphill section of the Camel Pass climb. A quick refuel at the top of Camel Pass out of the wind. Moon scapes and epic views The start of the traverse on the ridge. Matt and his flesh coloured Megatower Kayla on the Strega stoked to be up on the ridge. Matt getting stuck in to the first fun descent The wind was blowing really hard at the top. Demi getting a little sideways off the start! Dont turn left. Ben cruises along the cliff edge. Demi and Kayla enjoying the views and flowy single track. Looking down towards Carpenter Lake Single tack for days! Plenty of stops to take in the views and have a few laughs along the way Stunning alpine! Looking down over Tyaughton lake as a float place cruises to the dock after landing Dropping into some flat sandy corners as we roll off the ridge and down into Cinnabar on our final mega descent back into the valley below. An epic ride is always finished with a jump in the lake and a beer at the lodge before packing up and driving home.
